Distinctive, Memorable...Perfect
.
Every baby shower should have an element of sentiment included alongside the fun. The activities on this page are sweet activities that will delight both the guests
and the new parents!!
Letters to The Baby

As the guests walk to the table (or designated location)where the gifts are being placed.....have a special station   set up on the side of the gift table. At this station have cute baby themed stationary laid out with some nice pens.  Beside the stationary have a card out asking each guest to take a few moments to write a note to the new baby.    When the guests have finished writing their notes, have a tray or basket provided to place them in. Once all the guests have written their notes....the hostess can then choose one or two, at random, to be chosen for a prize (this could be your shower's door prize). When the shower is over these notes can be placed in a scrapbook or album to be enjoyed by the parents now and by the baby years down the road. Sweet and sentimental and sure to be treasured by the new family!!!

Suggestion: I would advise that these notes not be read in front of the crowd....your guests may not want their letters shared aloud for all to hear.  These are their special words to baby and the new parents so allow these words to be just for them!!
The Village Shares THEIR Excitement

Most of the people attending the baby shower will be close friends and family. At some point during the shower ask each guest if they would like to express what they are most excited about upon seeing the baby for the first time. Some may look forward to seeing if the baby has mommy's beautiful eyes. Another may want to see if the baby shares dad's enchanting smile. Still another may be curious as to whether the baby will have Uncle Arthur's double jointed thumb or Aunt Catherine's fabulous sense of humor!! It takes a village to raise and to love a child. The mom and dad will be touched by the love that all these guests have and will have for their new little baby. The guests will be excited to express their excitement and happiness with the new mom and dad!!

Suggestion:  Ask several people, ahead of time, to make "impromptu" speaches right after each other....this will allow the ball to get rolling on this activity.  It will also take the pressure off of guests that do not feel comfortable speaking in front of the crowd or feel that the words they would have said were already spoken by another.
Scavenger Hunt For Useful and Unique Baby Items

After the gifts have been opened....surprise the parents with a scavenger hunt for these fun and unique items!! Before the shower you will want to hide these items in rooms that won't be accessed during the party. Have the clues written on parchment paper rolled up and secured with ribbon. The first clue will be handed to the parents (or mommy) the remaining clues will be hidden with each item as it is found.
__________________________________

Item #1: Clue"In the crib you thought baby would sleep.....but there will be many nights you'll be up with baby watching TV. In your comforting arms she (he) will want to be cuddled. Underneath this gift you can both be huddled. There is something for baby and something for mom. Something for daddy....and something for all." (now the hostess will add a clue revealing where the gift is hidden ie: hidden in a room at the top of the stairs, take a sharp left, open the door, it is there!!). Hidden in this room could be a Moses Basket with A Soft Throw blanket and A DVD of a television series mom or dad really likes and a CD to dance with baby to that mom or dad likes!!)

Item #2: Clue: "There are so many items that the book did not heed.....so many items you will not know you need!! At 2 in
the morning baby's teeth seem to come....or those irksome gas bubbles that just aren't any fun! A delictable dessert.....
not edible at all....has been prepared for your baby....has been prepared for you all. It is full of those items you will definately
use....and some extras of items you won't want to lose." (Now the hostess will add a clue revealing where the item is hidden
ie: "Go to the kitchen and open the door that leads to the place where our food is stored." Hidden in the kitchen pantry will be
a
diaper cake loaded with all those little items mom and dad will need....but not neccesarily think of until baby is fussy at 2 am
(gas drops, infant tylenol, teething gel, soothing bedtime lotion, extra pacifiers, extra batteries for the mobile and other baby
items, tooth and gum cleaner, all those little neccesities that you can think of that will be used by mom and dad!!)

Item #3:  Clue:  "This final gift is one for the future....he (she) may write books or learn to tie sutures. A beginning of something that could grow into more, a gift of possibilites....of opening  doors." (hostess adds a clue as to the location of this gift.....ie: "On the livingroom mantel there  has been hidden an item that is attached to the visable ribbon."  (the hostess could have ribbon  that appears to just be shower decoration ribbon.....but is, in truth, ribbon cascading down the  mantel (blue or pink?) that is actually attached to an envelope that is hidden behind something on the mantel like a picture frame.) What will be found is a savings bond that can be put towards baby's education or future, in general, that will be eligible for baby to cash in upon it's 18th birthday (or the like).

***This is just an idea of a scavenger hunt type of game. Make up your own poems/limericks. Have fun....this will be something truly different at the shower and a great way to gift items to the new mom and dad. IF there are people who couldn't attend the shower because they were otherwise engaged or lived too far  away...see if they can maybe contribute some of these items!! Maybe Aunt Ethel and Uncle Gerald in Hobokin
can put some money towards the savings bond.....cousin Randy can buy the CD of dad's favorite band's Greatest Hits...and Grandma Elouise can contribute towards the
diaper cake!! A great way to have those absent in person....but present in spirit contribute to this celebration!!***
Baby Shower Bodysuit Decorating

Bodysuits are one thing the new parents will need lots of!!  A great activity is to have guests at the baby shower
decorate bodysuits!!  Purchase enough bodysuits and fabric paint for each guest attending and set up the
"creation station" in a location that will not be needed during the rest of the shower!!  (This will allow the bodysuits
to dry without them having to be moved.)  When the shower is over...offer to wash the custom bodysuits for the
new parents, making sure to follow the directions on the fabric paint bottles.  For large baby showers....purchase a wide range of sizes so these creations will be a part of baby's first full year!

Suggestion:  Cover the table being used with a plastic drop cloth covered with an
old tablecloth that is no longer needed (the one with gravy stains on it from last
Thanksgiving??).  5 Tubes of 1.25oz Colored Fabric Paint should be enough to
decorate 10 Bodysuits (when used sparringly).
Baby Shower Games and Activities
Who Can Make The Mommy-To-Be's Baby?

(Materials:  Baby Magazines, Scissors, Glue Sticks, Paper)

Divide your guests into groups 3 and give each group 3 baby magaizines (you can get these for free,
usually, at local pediatrician offices or even the local hospital).  Have them cut out pictures of different
baby parts (eyes, ears, hair, smile, body, feet, etc.) and put together a picture of what they think mommy's
baby will look like.  Have the Mommy-To-Be judge the final results based off of what she thinks the bundle of joy will resemble.  Give
prizes to the winning team.  This is a lot of fun and a really popular (yet not overdone) baby shower game!
How Many Baby Items Can You Name?

(Materials:  Pad of Paper and Pen for each guest.)

Give each guest 5 minutes to list as many baby products and accesories as they can.  At first this will be really easy but by the half-way mark your guests will really be racking their brains to think of more.  Prize goes to the guest that has the most!
How Many Diapers in the Diaper Cake?

If you have chosen to have a diaper cake at the baby shower, play a fun game where guests guess how many diapers are in the cake!  Make sure your diaper cake provider tells you how many diapers they used (so you don't have to try and count them all yourself!).  Better yet, order your cake from Diaper Cakes by Becca and the amount of diapers will be listed on the "recipe" included along with your diaper cake (and we always try to make it a random, not-easy-to-guess number!)!  The guest that gets closest to the actual number wins a prize.
Baby Shower Bingo (a classic favorite!)

Engage your guests in the present-unwrapping by playing the Classic Baby Shower Game!

(Materials: Bingo Templates *see below* and pens or markers)

1)  Print out a few more Bingo template cards than you think you will need.
2)  Fill in the blank squares with registry items and common baby shower gifts (ie: diapers)
3)  Distribute a Bingo Card and Pen/Marker to each guest at the baby shower
4)  As the parents-to-be open their gifts the guests will mark their cards if they have it on there.
5)  Whoever gets a completed row horizontally, vertically or diagonally will win a prize!

Here is a great (and easy to download!) Bingo template we found!
Baby Quiz

Have the new grandparents write down what their children were like as babies (the new parents are their children).  Make sure to get vital birth statistics like height, weight, 1st step, 1st tooth, etc.  Based on that information make out a quiz about the future parents for their guests.  The person with the most correct wins!
How Big Around is Mommy?

Hand out rolls of tissue paper or streamers among the guests and have them tear off the length that they think the new mommy is around!  After everyone has torn off their strips....have them test them on mommy's belly to see how close or far off they were. The closest one wins a prize!
Hide The Baby In The Cake!

If you are baking the cake or having a local professional or friend bake the cake for you, locally, have them place a bakeable baby figurine
(or coordinating figure) into the cake.  Ask them to try and indicate which half of the cake the figure is located so that piece is sure to be
distributed when the cake is cut.  Let the guests know that whoever gets the baby wins a  prize!  It does not have to be a baby it could b
e a duck, star or even a single chocolate chunk in a sea of white cake.
Guess the Guest

Have each guest send you a copy of their baby photo prior to the baby shower.  Display the photos in a Baby photo album or on a nicely decorated piece of poster board.  Number them and have the guests try to guess which guest is which baby.  This is a great way for people to get to know each other at the shower.  A great way to get the party started!
Celebrity Baby Matchup

Go online and print out pictures of celebrity parents and their babies.  Display the babies on one piece of poster board and the famous parent/parents on another piece.  Number each picture and have each guest attempt to match up the baby to their parent(s).  This, too, is a great first game that will get everyone in a competitive and game-ready mood at the baby shower!
Blindfolded Diaper Change

If you have a smaller sized baby shower (less than 10 people) this will be a fun game to play (you could also do teams for a larger crowd).

Have each guest attempt to completely change the wet baby, blindfolded.  This will mean undressing, removing diaper, wiping, powdering, re-diapering and re-dressing.  Time the guests and the quickest time with the best end-result will win a prize!

Baby Shower Word Scamble

Give each of your guests an identical word scramble to tackle.  List common baby items to make it easier and more unique items to challenge them.

    IDEA:

If your budget allows, have some great notepads made up for your guests to play
the games at the shower.  They could match the theme or simply the color scheme.   Another option would be    to buy nice coordinating colored, quarter sized spiral
notebooks and then decorate with stickers that match the shower theme.

Check with your local print shop or go online to see what you can find in your area.
Baby Birth Day and Time Wager

Have each of your guests throw in a set amount of money to wager on the day and time baby will be born.
Record those figures to reference on the big day!  You may even want to take email addresses and email
everyone their pick after the shower.  When the big day arrives send the new mommy flowers or a
diaper wreath with half the collected money (the flowers would be from the entire group) and the other half
could be used to purchase a gift certificate for the winner.  You could even have the new parents send the
gift certificate when they mail the announcements and let the baby shower guests know who won!
